by Elizabeth Harris
Pierce High has an new arrival this semester. New ag teacher and FFA sponsor Matthew Neal is originally from Sidney, Nebraska, and is a graduate from both Montana State University and the University of Wyoming, which is where Neal got his teaching degree.
This is Neal’s fifth year of teaching. At Pierce High, Neal currently teaches animal science, AG metals, and eighth grade exploratory. He plans to teach plant science and intro to agriculture again in the fall.
“I had a passion for agriculture,” said Neal. “I grew up around it and I really loved it. I love the type of curriculum it offers.” Neal’s grandfather introduced him to agriculture as he had raised beef cattle.
Married to Lisa Neal, with their son Jaymison and their daughter Peyton, Neal moved with his family straight from Georgia to teach at Pierce High.
“I came to Pierce because I saw it as a good opportunity,” he said. “My wife and I both realized the values of Nebraska, and this is the type of community we wanted our children to grow up in.”
