Boys JV Basketball Takes on the Jaguars

The boys’ JV basketball team took on the Howells-Dodge Jaguars at home to get their first win of the season on Thursday, December 1.
For the first period of play, the boys came out strong and grabbed the lead right away. Scoring for the Jays during the first quarter were Devan Roth with 4, Jadon Magdanz with 2, Carson Oestreich 6, and Wyatt Nietzke with 2. The Jays outscored the Jaguars with the score at the end of quarter one 14-9.
During the second quarter Pierce came out a little slow, putting only four points up on the board, while Howells-Dodge was able to break through the Jays’ defense and get six. Scorers for the second quarter were Kalvin Watts with 2, and Carson Oestreich with 2. Despite being outscored, however, the Jays still led going into halftime 18-15.
After the halftime break, the Jays had found their momentum again. They were able to score 14 points on the Jaguars’ defense, while the Jays allowed Howells-Dodge to score only two points on them. Taylor Oestreich had a three-pointer and two more two-point buckets, Jadon Magdanz had a basket, Wyatt Nietzke had a three, and Ian Fisher had two points. This put the score going into the final quarter 32-17.
Onto the last quarter of play, the Jays found a way to break through and score 14 points, but were unable to shut down the Jaguars and let them score a total of 14 also. Kalvin Watts had two three-pointers and one two-point bucket, Wyatt Neitzke had four points, and Ian Fisher had a two-point bucket. The Jays would come out on top 46-31.
“For the first game, it was pretty good,” said JV coach Tim Waldner. “We adjusted well, and we showed improvement as it went on. Now we go back to practice and keep working on things and improving.”
The JV boys’ next game will be Friday, December 9, at Boone Central.
