Golfers Tee Off for First Meet

The Pierce High girls’ golf team came home with 4th place on Thursday, August 18, as they traveled to O’Neill for their first meet. The team scored a total of 446 to finish behind Battle Creek, who won the meet with a team score of 401, followed by Norfolk Catholic and Cedar Catholic.
The winning individual score for the meet was an 85. For the individual Lady Jays, Amber Albrecht, who finished 14th, led her team with a score of 108. Paige Johnson fell just short of medaling, finishing 17th with a score of 110. Sammi Svendsen following close behind Johnson finished 18th with a score of 110 as well. Freshman Sydney Erickson ended her first high school golf meet placing 25th with a score of 118. Haley Dohmen finished 31st with a score of 138.
“I was very pleased with the girls’ performance today,” said coach Melinda Stelling. “They cut a lot of strokes off their scores compared to this same meet last year.”
The golfers will head to Wayne to compete in their next meet on Friday, August 26.
