Lady Golfers Begin Season

Pierce’s girls’ golf team was back into full swing on the golf course as of Monday, August 8, for the official start of practice.
This year, the girls’ golf team has four returning letterwinners, consisting of sophomore Samantha Svendsen, and juniors Amber Albrecht, Haley Dohmen, and Paige Johnson. The team also added one new golfer this season, freshman Sydney Erickson. Preparing for their first meet, the team has spent the past few weeks of practice learning the rules and fundamentals of the game, and, of course, playing the game.
The team set some goals they are hoping to achieve by the end of the season, such as improving the team scores from last year, earning a trophy in at least one invitational, and making it to state as a team.
“I feel like we have already made improvements from the end of the year last year,” said golf coach Melinda Stelling, “I feel confident that they will perform well by the end of the season.” The girls’ first competition was Thursday, August 18, in O’Neill, and their next meet will be held this Friday, August 26, at Wayne.
