Volleyball Serves up a New Season
By Grace Spieker
A new season started for the Pierce High volleyball team Monday, August 15, as they started getting prepared for the season’s first games. Having had conditioning the week before, the team was ready for practices to officially start.
With a packed summer full of several camps, weightlifting, and summer league, the team is ready to get back on the court. New volleyball head coach Brittany Case and assistant coaches Zach Weber and Krista Hermsmeyer are ready to start this season at Pierce High.
“It’s been crazy and fun starting this new season, and I have great assistant coaches to help me adjust,” said Case.
Having 30 players on the team this year, including nine returning letterwinners, they already come out of practice getting better and better, while making gradual improvements every day.
Keeping the first game in mind, the team has been working hard on a few skills that they are trying to improve. “We’ve really been working hard with serving and serve receive,” said Case. She also said that they are trying to implement a new strategy called “no excuse” defense.
With only a few practices until the first game, the Lady Jays are working hard to prepare for their first game against Norfolk Catholic, which will be held on Thursday, September 1, at home with a start time of 5:30.
