Traveling to the Plainview Country Club, the boys’ golf team qualified for state by placing third at the district meet on Monday, May 16.
Out of 73 other golfers, Oscar Backstrom earned third place with an impressive 79. Matthew Bruce placed fourth with a score of 80. Ethan Blecher scored a 92 and got 25th. Placing 37th, Dysen Roth shot a 99. Clay Johnson placed 39th with a score of 100.
Golf coach Rick Adams said, “During the front nine, I felt they were just trying too hard and not letting the game come to them. However, being the “Back 9 Bluejays,” they rallied with a great back nine score to qualify. The rounds Oscar and Matt played were exceptional, especially considering the pressure of the moment. I am extremely proud of this group of young men!”
The team will compete in the state golf meet on Tuesday and Wednesday, May 24-25, at Kearney Country Club.
