Pierce FCCLA Heads to State
by Shianna Oestreich

Seventeen members of Pierce’s FCCLA headed to Lincoln on April 3 through April 5 for the State FCCLA Leadership Conference held at the Pinnacle Bank Arena and Holiday Inn in the Haymarket Area. The theme of the conference was “Back to the Future.”

Sydney Erickson came home with a state champion title for the Junior Division Career Investigation project. She will be competing in San Diego in July at the National FCCLA conference. Many members came home with silver medals as well. Desirea Druyor received silver in the Senior Division Nebraska STAR Family Challenges and Issues. Rachel Fenton and Ellie Peters worked together to gain a silver in the Junior Division Illustrated Talk. Stephanie Rinkel competed in the Junior Division Promote and Publicize for a silver.

The Pierce delegation received the Chapter Spirit Award. This is awarded to the chapter who shows the most spirit, support of others, good character, and involvement in the conference.

Shelby Ronspies and Mariah West served as Honorary Conference Assistants to the State Director and State Officer Team. They worked behind the scenes during the conference to make sure all ran smoothly.

Members of the FCCLA who were not competing attended the Opportunity Fair. They also went on a tour at the Hilton Garden Inn to learn about the hospitality industry and attended youth sessions.

Cheryl Timm, Pierce FCCLA sponsor, traveled with the group to Lincoln. She said, “I felt very proud of the group that attended SLC. They were involved and committed to competing, leading and learning. We had many who took risks by running for a state office and competing.  They learned a great deal by challenging themselves.”
