FCCLA is a nonprofit organization that teaches lifelong learning experiences and prepares you for real life. Among the many things FCCLA members learn include family dynamics, financial management, and public speaking. As a member of FCCLA, students get to meet new people, travel to in state and out of state conferences, and participate in community service and practice leadership skills. This organization is perfect for young adults moving forward in their future.
FCCLA itself stands for Family Career and Community Leaders of America. Members stand by the creed which is, We are the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America. We face the future with warm courage and high hope. For we have the clear consciousness of seeking old and precious values. For we are the builders of homes, homes for America's future, homes where living will be the expression of everything that is good and fair, homes where truth and love and security and faith will be realities, not dreams. We are the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America. We face the future with warm courage and high hope. This creed, which is said at every meeting, reminds members the core values of the organization and what we stand for.
FCCLA also has a mission statement, which is: To promote personal growth and leadership development through Family and Consumer Sciences education. Focusing on the multiple roles of family member, wage earner and community leader, members develop skills for life through: character development, creative and critical thinking, interpersonal communication, practical knowledge, and career preparation.
FCCLA has taught current members important life lessons. Kaylee Dankert, a Senior at Pierce High School states, “I have learned how the be a better leader.” Another member, Breane Hoffman says, “FCCLA has taught me that me I have second family I can fall back on when I get stressed or over whelmed. FCCLA is a great organization for high school students to be in to learn leadership, public speaking, and so much more.
Each year in February, chapters all across the nation celebrate FCCLA Week. This year it is February 8-12. During this week we have dress up days at school. This year’s dress up day themes are: Nerd day, Beach day, Celebrity day, Ticket Back in Time day, and School Organization day. Through out this week FCCLA does various events, such as member breakfast and conducts an annual candy grams fundraiser.
In conjunction with the upcoming FCCLA week, the Pierce Chapter is asking for help to support the Nebraska Peer Team’s project called Love Adelyn. The Love Adelyn mission is to give hope to sick children and their families in local hospitals. The chapter is collecting items to create patient bags for children at Omaha Children’s Hospital. The Pierce FCCLA chapter is challenging the school’s study hall members to a see who can collect the most items for this project. The winning study hall will receive an ice cream party. Community members can contribute to this worthy cause by dropping off the following items at the Pierce Jr./Sr. High school office by Tuesday February 16. Items needed include: new crayons, markers, coloring books, glue sticks, construction paper, art kits, stickers, pipe cleaners, and store gift cards. Please do not bring: paint, food, scissors, holiday/seasonal items, anything breakable or anything that can leak. Pierce FCCLA will deliver the items at the State FCCLA Peer Retreat in Kearney at the end of February.
