Livestock Judging
Livestock Judging By Tyler Unseld
On Thursday, January 28, 16 members of the Pierce FFA Chapter loaded on a bus and headed to the Northeast Community College Ag Complex for District livestock-judging contest. At the contest, FFA members evaluated two classes of sheep, three classes of hogs, and three classes of cattle. The Pierce chapter took a senior and a junior team, each consisting of 8 members. The Pierce senior team placed seventh out of twelve teams. On the senior team the two highest placings were Emily Lambrecht with 16th place, and Quentin Anderson with 24th place. The junior team also placed seventh out of twelve teams. The two highest placings on the junior team were Collin Tinker with 11th place and Michael Polt with 33rd place. Overall, both of the teams feel that there is room for improvement and that they will be back next year. Dean Fleer said, “I felt livestock judging was a great learning experience and it’s a very good opportunity to get out and compete with the FFA.” The next event is Career Development Events at NECC on March 2nd.
