Traveling on the road to Dallas, Texas, a group of FCCLA members from Pierce traveled to their annual National Cluster Meeting for which they departed on Thursday, November 19, with travel concluding Sunday, November 22.
This year, the FCCLA National Cluster Meeting’s theme was Empower, which meant that FCCLA members should speak to make the right choices and commit themselves to making a positive impact within their families, school, FCCLA, and their communities.
The group of FCCLA members who traveled to Dallas this year was made up of Sydney Erickson, Rachel Fenton, Stephanie Rinkel, Haley Ziemer, Mariah West, Sydney Slater, Paige Snodgrass, Ellie Peters, Breane Hoffman, Cassandra Rinkel, McKenzie Kallhoff, Abigail Anderson, Samantha Hartman, Rose Graham, and Elizabeth Harris. Sponsoring these members on the trip were adviser Cheryl Timm and other sponsors Ann Fenton, Tia Jech, and Susan Rinkel.
The members left Thursday night and arrived in Dallas on Friday. When they first arrived in Dallas, they went sightseeing and viewed the 6th Floor Museum and toured the JFK assassination site, the Perot Museum of Science and Nature, and the Geo-Deck Tower that overlooks
Friday evening, they went to the Youth Networking Session of the conference, where they were involved in fun activities that gave them the opportunity to meet new people. After the Youth Session, they attended the general session where there was a keynote speaker, Kent Julian.
Saturday, the group attended another youth workshop with activities and other workshops and then had sessions with their advisors, followed by a closing session where competitive events were recognized and a closing ceremony was held. After the closing session, they packed up and head home to Pierce.
“The conference in Dallas was both educational and fun,” said advisor Cheryl Timm. “Members had the opportunity to see some of our nation’s history, science, and technology and learn about FCCLA programs up close. It was well worth the two overnight bus rides.”
