Speech Team Places 3rd at Districts

Pierce High hosted the district speech contest on Monday, March 16. The PHS speech team placed 3rd overall. Nine PHS speakers in nine events made it all the way to district finals, but with only the top three placers in each event qualifying for state, the team did not have any state qualifiers.
Placing this meet were Alyson Garcia who, placed 6th in Poetry, Chance White with 6th in Humorous Prose, and Kati Krueger and Tatym Rowley with 6th in Duet Acting. Junior Aguilar placed 5th in Extemporaneous Speaking. Placing 4th were Shannah Unseld in Persuasive and in Informative Speaking. Also placing 4th was Bryce Bierman and Derek Ross with Duet Acting, and Kristin Arens in Poetry and Humorous Prose.
Head coach Melissa Legate said, “I was really proud of our finish as a team. I wish that some of the seniors could have qualified, as they worked really hard all season, but I am still very pleased with the way everyone performed.”
