Arens, Unseld Win District History Day
Arens, Unseld Win District History Day
by Lexi Dunn
Pierce High seniors Kristin Arens and Shannah Unseld competed in the district History Day contest on Monday, February 23, at Northeast Community College. The pair took first place to advance to state.
This year’s topic for history day was leadership and legacy. The “Leadership and Legacy of Dorothy Day in the Catholic Worker Movement” is the topic that Arens and Unseld chose for their History Day project. They were judged on research, primary and secondary sources, and how well the topic fits the theme.
History Day projects can be a national contest. To get to state, competitors need to place top two in districts, and to go to nationals, they need to place top two at state. State is held at the Nebraska Wesleyan University on April 11th, and National at the University of Maryland.
History teacher Mrs. Brenda Fleecs said, “Shannah and Kristin will do quite well at state, and they will be tough to beat because of their background in speech, research skills, and their knowledge on history.”
