PHS Holds Food Drive

Pierce High students and staff have been collecting canned food items for families in need in the Pierce school system. PHS started collecting on Tuesday, December 2, and collected through Wednesday, December 17.
The goal of the drive was to gather enough canned foods to total into 15 boxes and give to families in need. The FFA program donated fruit for each box, and Nucor donated a ham for each box. After fifteen days of collecting in each first period class, a total of 622 cans were collected at PHS.
Organizer of the food drive, activities director Johnnie Ostermeyer, said, “The main reason we do this is because there are a lot of kids in our school that are fighting battles that we maybe don’t know about. It’s nice to know that these kids will have food to be with their families throughout the holiday season.”
