FCCLA Attends Conference in Little Rock

FCCLA Attend Conference in Little Rock
by Merissa Harris

Several members of the Pierce FCCLA went to Little Rock, Arkansas, to participate in a conference held there on Friday, November 14.

There were 3,000 people who attended in all, and ten of those 3,000 people where from PHS. The members who went on the trip were Ellie Peters, Cassandra Rinkel, Stephanie Rinkel, Breane Hoffman, Sydney Slater, Mariah West, Alyson Garcia, Krista Rystrom, Angelina Salinas, Ashley Pedersen, Mrs. Chris Peters, and FCCLA sponsor Cheryl Timm.

At the conference, FCCLA groups from around the nation gathered, and a few competitions were held. Although Pierce’s FCCLA didn’t participate in any of the competitions held at the conference, they did participate in watching a lot of the competitions and learned a great deal.  Some of the competitions that they watched were the Knowledge Bowl and Culinary Competitive events.  Attendees also learned about the FCCLA national programs, what other FCCLA groups do across the nation, and how to conduct fundraisers for No Hungry Kid.

Those in attendance also listened to a speaker who discussed how he has been to all 50 states and held at least one job.  His main message was to focus on career and college plans, which tied into the college and career fair that were also a part of the conference.

“We met a lot of interesting people and had a ton of fun while learning how to be great leaders,” said Breane Hoffman a Pierce FCCLA member who participated in the trip.

While in Little Rock Pierce FCCLA also decided to have some fun by attending a couple of historical places, including the old state building that is there.  They also went to the zoo in Little Rock.  While at the zoo, they had a lot of fun and ended up getting food thrown at them by a chimp.

The next FCCLA event will be Cluster, held on Friday, November 21, until Saturday, November 22.
