Pierce High’s FCCLA chapter attended their annual District Leadership Conference at Northeast Community College on Wednesday, October 22.
Many schools attended the District 8 Leadership Conference, including Crofton, Plainview, Neligh-Oakdale, Bloomfield, Elkhorn Valley, Osmond, Battle Creek, Elgin, and Creighton, adding up to a total of 250 attendees in all. Although there were many participants, Pierce High’s FCCLA students received many awards.
Among those who represented Pierce that received rewards were Alyson Garcia, Mariah West, Shelby Ronspies, Kaylee Dankert, Krista Rystrom, Jasmine Elsberry, and Madison Siedschlag, all of whom received certificates in the A Better You module, which required participants to choose an individual project that would better herself. For example, Alyson Garcia chose to stop drinking soda and eating fast food.
Sydney Acklie competed in all five modules of the Power of One competition, including A Better You, Family Ties, Working on Working, Take the Lead, and Speak out for FCCLA. Acklie received a certificate for her work.
Finally, Abigail White received first place in the FCCLA creed speaking contest.
The chapter itself also won awards. They received a participation award for the Scrapbook event, and took home 2nd place in yearbook.
In addition to the various competition sessions, the attendees also heard from keynote speaker Andy Hoffman, father of Team Jack’s Jack Hoffman. Money was raised for Team Jack during the leadership conference through entry fees and a bucket auction.
The next FCCLA meeting will be at 6:00pm on Wednesday, November 5.
