Pierce Choir Holds Fall Concert

Pierce Choir Holds Fall Concert
by Aidan Jones

Pierce’s junior and senior high choirs raised their voices at the first concert of the year on Monday, October 20, at Pierce High School.

The junior high choir started off the show with three numbers. Their songs were “J’entends Le Moulin,” “Habari Nzuri,” and “Do I Hear You Gossiping?”

The senior high choir started off their portion of the performance with an old Latin song called “Cantante Domino,” followed by “Homeward Bound". Next up was “For Good,” an all girls piece.

Then, those students who tried out for the All-State choir sang the piece they used for auditions. These singers included John Polt, Ethen Kuether, Alex Retzlaff, Tristen Sell, Emily Lambrecht, and Alexa Douglass.

Immediately after the All-State tryout students came “The Glory,” and then a very slow and melodic song entitled “The Tide Rises.” The tone of the concert switched quickly when a quirky, fast, and fun song called “The Auctioneer” began as the choir students shed their formal robes to reveal plaid shirts and jeans. Finally, the choir finished the show with a friendly song called “Step by Step,” a song about making friends and enjoying life.

“For a first performance it went really well,” said choir director Teri Haselhorst. “The choir practiced hard on the basics, and they have them down well. However, I think we need to pay more attention to small details.”

The choir will be working on these small details as they prepare for their next show, a choral clinic held at Crofton High School on Monday, November 10.
