Sophomores Attend Career Day

Pierce High’s sophomores, along with Mary Birch and Krista Bailey from the guidance department, hit the Wayne State College campus to learn about various career options on Tuesday, October 14.
Forty sophomores from Pierce High attended the Sophomore Career Day held at Wayne State College, with a total of 975 sophomores attending in all. The day was busy with confused sophomores trying to find their way around the campus, but they were thankfully turned in the right direction by helpers.
Every student had the chance to visit three individuals working in three separate careers, and then they turned toward a warm welcoming lunch at the college’s cafeteria. Students were then sent back to attend two break-out sessions. The break out sessions included Are You Ready, Balancing Act, Preparing a Great Resume, College Transitions, Dare to Dream, Top Ten Reasons, Get a Job, Getting From Here To Their, Volunteering…Giving Back, Future Hot Jobs, KnowHowToGoNebraska, Coeds Tell All, Pathways to Success, Stretch Your Money, Stayin’ Alive, That’s My Name…(s)he’s Not ME!, Why Hire You, One of Many, Hot Jobs In Ag, and Youth Training Services.
The students enjoyed Sophomore Career Day, and all of them learned several new things.
“I love Sophomore Career Day because students have an opportunity to experience what other people have to say about careers,” said guidance counselor Mary Birch. “It’s really a reality check for the kids.”
