FCCLA Kicks Off Year

Pierce High’s FCCLA officers and members had their annual kick-off meeting on Monday, August 25. All students in grades 8 through 12 who wanted to be involved in FCCLA were asked to come to the high school for an evening consisting of games, food, and information about the organization.
The meeting started with an introduction of the 2014-2015 officers. Allison Garcia is the president, vice president is Sydney Acklie, and the secretary/STAR representative is Shelby Ronpsies. Also, the treasure/District 8 representative is Krista Rystom, the public relations office is Breane Hoffman, the historian is Desirea Druyor, Power of One chairperson is Maria West, and community outreach person is Courtney Hansen.
The officers introduced this year’s theme as “In FCCLA, We All Fit In!” and the design is a puzzle. After the introductions, the FCCLA provided the students with food such as hot dogs and hamburgers. Following the dinner, the students played a few rounds of bingo, and on the bingo card was information about FCCLA.
Ending the meeting, the FCCLA officers and Mrs. Timm did the ice bucket challenge, a national nomination game where ice water is poured on your head to raise awareness for ALS.
Having cold water poured on their heads, the minds of the FCCLA team were frozen and, they forgot about the keys to unlock the front door of the school! The keys were inside and everyone was outside, creating a bit of chaos. FCCLA advisor Mrs. Cheryl Timm said, “It was the most unusual meeting we ever had.”
The FCCLA’s next member meeting is on Monday, September 8.
