Pierce High Back In Session

Pierce High Back In Session
by Emily Simmons

Pierce High kicked off the 2014-15 school year on Wednesday, August 13.

The day began with an assembly. Principal Mark Brahmer started the assembly by introducing the eager staff and reviewing the school rules and policies with the student body. After that, classes officially commenced, and students got a taste of their course requirements and the work that lies ahead of them. The day ended early with a 1:15 dismissal for students.

Pierce welcomed several new students and staff members on the first day, as well. This included one freshman, one sophomore, two juniors, and two seniors, as well as a new math and science instructor. Additionally, two staff members from Pierce Elementary made the move to the high school this year:  Mrs. Misty Halsey and Mrs. Terri Haselhorst.

The start of the year is particularly special for one group each year:  the seniors, who had their last ‘first day’ of high school. Senior Synthia Schuett said it felt great walking into the school knowing it was her final first day at Pierce High and knowing that she and her classmates are role-models at the school. She said, ” As seniors, we have to set a better example because we are the leaders now.”

Overall, according to Mr. Brahmer, the first day went smoothly, and the young students were pointed in the right direction. Looking ahead to the rest of the year, Brahmer hopes to see students do well in classes, strive for improvement on state tests, and find success in the school’s various activities and athletics.
