FCCLA Family Night Banquet Held

FCCLA Family Night Banquet Held
by London Sindelar

Pierce’s FCCLA chapter held its annual end of the year banquet Friday, April 25, at 7 p.m. in the Pierce High School multi-purpose room.
President London Sindelar called the meeting to order and began the program before supper. Officers from this school year presided at the head table. This included London Sindelar, president; Alissa Hoffmann, vice president; Taylor Aschoff, secretary; Autumn Baumann, treasurer/District 8 representative; Shelby Ronspies, historian; Kaylee Dankert, public relations officer; Martina Wickett, STAR chairperson; Emily Bjorklund, community outreach chairperson; and Sydney Acklie, Power of One chairperson.
New this year for the banquet, the senior officers decided to have a knowledge bowl round against their own parents, instead of having a speaker. The parents triumphed over the seniors in a spirit of lighthearted competition, although their questions were “way easier than the officer’s questions,” according to some of the defeated FCCLA members.
Next, awards were given out to the members. FCCLA members who had completed their first year received their gold pins. Members completing their second, third, and fourth years were recognized as well. Five-year member, London Sindelar, was given a certificate for her years of dedication to the organization.
Awards were also given out to those members who completed the Power of One modules, members who competed in STAR, and members who had earned enough points to be able to accompany the chapter in the Summer Incentive to Adventureland.
FCCLA gives honorary memberships to outstanding community individuals who help the organization. This year, the group honored Beth Noelle Sindelar, who has helped out countless times throughout the past five years. She has accompanied the chapter to national meetings, judged several district STAR events, and has dedicated lots of her time to help support the Pierce FCCLA chapter.
Outstanding class member awards went to one person in each grade based on points earned in FCCLA activities this year. Haley Dohmen was the eighth grade outstanding member, freshman was Sara Pedersen, sophomore was Shelby Ronspies, junior was Sydney Acklie, and the seniors’ outstanding member was Autumn Baumann. The overall outstanding FCCLA member award went to London Sindelar with 296 points.
Throughout the evening, a silent auction of themed baskets and buckets of gifts assembled by members and their families were bid on. Winning bidders for each basket were announced, and the proceeds of the auction went to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Altogether, the auction raised $386.00 in donations.
The evening ended with installation of new officers for the 2014-2015 school year:
President Alyson Garcia; vice president Sydney Acklie; secretary/STAR representative Shelby Ronspies; treasurer/District 8 representative Krista Rystom; public relations officer Breane Hoffman; historian Desirea Druyor; Power of One chairperson Mariah West; and community outreach chairperson Courtney Hansen. After the installation of the new officers, a senior slideshow was shown to honor the seniors, followed by the year in review slideshow, highlighting the best of the chapter’s year.
Advisor Cheryl Timm said, “Our banquet is always a great opportunity to celebrate the accomplishments of members throughout the year. I am always surprised but it is truly due to the dedication and hard work of all involved.”
