Students Receive Art Awards at Conference
by London Sindelar
A number of Pierce High School students took part in displaying their artwork at the Midstates Conference Art Show on April 11, through April 15, held at the Sunset Plaza Mall in Norfolk.
Many other schools were involved, including Battle Creek, Boone Central, Hartington CC, Madison, Norfolk Catholic, Pierce, Wayne, and West Point CC.
There was a variety of artwork ranging from paintings of many types, such as pencils, pastels, sculptures, photography, and many others. The grades that participated were 7-9 in the junior high division and 10-12 in the senior high division. Each piece of artwork received a ribbon. There are many other awards students are able to receive, such as Teachers’ Choice Awards, 2-D Community Choice Award, Best in Show, and several others.
Art teachers voted for their favorite pieces, and Pierce students who received Teachers’ Choice Awards were Aydan Ronspies and Caleb Lohrberg.
Pierce High’s art teacher Tim Waldner said, “I’m always proud of my students work. Their art is a good representation of their talent and hard work.”
Both of the award-winning art, along with others, are posted in the showcase outside the art room at Pierce High, and members of the public can see it when they visit PHS for events such as the upcoming music concerts.
