Fifteen Inducted Into Honor Society
Fifteen new members were formally inducted into Pierce High School’s chapter of the National Honor Society on Friday, January 20 before a crowd of ninety parents and other guests.
New members, elected by the faculty on the basis of scholarship (at least a 3.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale), leadership, service, and character, are the following students: Kristen Albrecht, Laurel Bailey, Autumn Baumann, Abbey Buettgenbach, Michael Fleer, Morgan Hoferer, Ali Johnson, Charles Krueger, Caleb Lohrberg, Matthew Lukens, Jarold McWilliams, Briton Rodenborg, Aydan Ronspies, Myles Sudbeck, and Danika Wieting.
National Honor Society president Ashton Johnson opened the ceremony with a welcome and introduced the Pierce High choir. Directed by Mrs. Constance Jessen, the choir sang “Stand By Me.”
Amy Venteicher presented a speech about scholarship; Marcus Blunck spoke about character, Katherine Lockee spoke about service, and Laurie Venteicher spoke about leadership. Each speaker had written his or her presentation and explained what the attribute means to National Honor Society members.
Following the speeches, veteran members took lighted candles from the NHS candle and passed the light to new members, saying: “As I give light unto you, so may you give light unto others.” All members signed the membership book and said the NHS pledge. In closing, Ashton Johnson thanked Mrs. Phyllis Wood for her 38 years as National Honor Society sponsor. Wood is retiring at the end of this year.
Members and guests had cake and beverages after the ceremony.
