Picture Perfect for FFA
Each year the Land O’Lakes Foundation helps support rural communities by matching donations made by member cooperatives, which help enhance the quality of life in their local communities. The Battle Creek Farmers’ Pride Coop channels their portion of the Land O’Lakes funds to local FFA chapters. In the beginning of November Battle Creek Coop manager Dean Thernes extended the opportunity to the Pierce Agricultural Education (AgEd) and FFA Chapter to apply for a grant intended to help the chapters financially with a large purchase. The Battle Creek Coop chooses deserving FFA chapters based on the grant application submitted, and then Land O’Lakes matches the funds.
Pierce’s FFA officer teams and agricultural education advisor wrote a proposal to purchase a new camera and accessories. The Pierce FFA chapter camera is currently extremely outdated. It produces low quality pictures that frequently must be deleted, resulting in loss of photo documentation of FFA activities. Pierce was selected by the Battle Creek Coop and approved by the Land O’Lakes Foundation to receive the grant money. The chapter was presented donation checks by Ron Woslager, manager of the Pierce location, the second week of December. The chapter is eagerly awaiting the purchase of the new equipment.
Haley Oestreich, president of the Pierce FFA Chapter, commented, “I am very appreciative of the Battle Creek Coop and Land O’Lakes Foundation for continuing to support FFA Chapters and Ag Education programs.”
