Pierce Elementary To Be Cleaned
Classes Tentatively May Start As Early As August 25
The roof repairs were completed Wednesday and humidity levels are returning to acceptable levels at Pierce Elementary. Today our school officials met with the owner of Mold Testing Services of Sioux Falls and ServiceMaster of Norfolk. After reviewing the test results and having a lengthy discussion of our mold and air quality issues, we have developed a plan under their guidance.
Cleaning of the affected classrooms will begin on Monday, August 16, and is expected to continue all week. Cleaning will consist of cleaning carpet in all rooms, with the affected classrooms also being totally wiped down. Air scrubbers will be utilized to clean the air throughout the building. An air duct cleaning company will be on-site from Thursday through Saturday. When that cleaning is finished, final tests will be taken of the carpeting and air quality. We expect to receive those results not later than Monday, August 23. If those results fall within acceptable parameters, then teachers will be allowed to enter the building to prepare their rooms. We are hopeful that our first day with students can be Wednesday, August 25, but it may be Thursday, August 26. In the unlikely event that we would not receive clearance, additional cleaning would take place and the start date would be delayed.
Again, we can assure you that the health and safety of our students and staff will not be compromised. We'll not allow anyone back into their classrooms until it is safe to do so. We appreciate your continued support and understanding and anxiously await the start of the 2010-11 school year at Pierce Elementary.
