Pierce Elementary To Delay Start Of School
The Pierce Elementary School building is currently experiencing compromised indoor air quality due to mold, which we believe has been caused by roof problems. We are working with industry experts to further identify the cause, make the necessary corrections, and clean the affected areas. Please be assured that we will not allow students or staff into the affected areas until industry experts have deemed them safe. We will not compromise the safety of our students and staff.
We’re currently awaiting a second set of air and carpet test results to determine the full extent of the problem. Those results are expected Friday. At this time we anticipate beginning school on September 7 at Pierce Elementary, depending on those test results. If the test results show a more significant area impacted, the start of school could be delayed an additional 2-3 weeks.
Pierce Jr./Sr. High School is scheduled to start as originally planned August 16. Hot lunch and bus service will be provided.
Again, be assured that we will provide a safe environment for our students and staff. We’ll have additional information after test results are received Friday available on the school’s website, 329-BLUE, and area radio/TV. Do not hesitate to call me at 329-4677 or 750-8818 for further information or if you have any questions. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding in this matter.
