Eighth Graders Attend Career Day
Pierce’s Junior High’s eighth graders went to the ESU Career Day at Northeast Community College on Wednesday, February 3 and Thursday, February 4. Half of the eighth grade class attended each day from 9:00 a.m. until 12:30.
The day began with an introduction to the career day, followed by a career cluster interest survey, which matched eighth graders to a career they would enjoy. The survey looked at their skills, interests, and abilities. After they were matched with a career, they were asked to research their career to find out how much it paid, what kind of schooling they would need, and what classes to take to help with that career.
The group then moved on to a budget activity to help them learn how to keep a budget during their college years. The day ended with a tour of NECC, where they saw classrooms, dorms, daycare, and the student center.
Pierce High guidance aide Mrs. Fran Pytleski said, “This is a great way for the eighth graders to start planning for their futures.” Eighth grader Sam Sargent said they learned how much money some careers made and they “smelled good food.”
