Three to Honor Choir

by Zach Ruppert

February 03, 2010

Three Pierce students in grades seven through nine were honored when they were chosen to participate in the Nebraska Choral Directors’ Association Honor Choir in Holdrege. Molly Harris, Briton Rodenborg, and Mariekel Blake were among the 120 members of the honor choir chosen best of Nebraska’s singers at their age level, based on auditions.

Pierce’s group left for the clinic at 2:50 Friday afternoon, January 29 with their choral director, Mrs. Constance Jessen. They arrived in Holdrege and spent the night at a hotel with a pool, which they also enjoyed.

They met in the Tassel Performing Arts Center on Saturday, January 30 with Dr. Rhonda Fuelberth, guest clinician, who agreed to serve as clinician when Cristi Miller was unable to reach Nebraska because of bad weather in Oklahoma, where she lives. Jessen said the clinician was “wonderful and a lovely surprise since we knew we were going to have a substitute director.”

The students practiced during the day Saturday and presented a concert at 4:00 p.m., attended by a small company of supporters from Pierce along with many others.

Briton Rodenborg said the experience was fun. He liked being able to listen to other people who are good at choir. “They were better than me,” Briton said. Mollie Harris said that the best part of the weekend was meeting new people, and that the ride to Holdrege, the hotel, the concert, and the ride home were fun.
