The Pierce dance team brought home first place, second place, and third place trophies after competing in the NADT Dance Competition in Grand Island, Saturday, January 30. The team competed in three divisions: jazz, pom, and hip-hop.
The dance team performed their hip-hop routine to the song “Control Myself.” In the hip-hop division they placed second, although they did have the highest single judge’s score of the division. Their jazz routine was danced to the song “Rock Star.” They placed first in this category. They also competed in the pom division, where they placed third. “We thought we did well and were happy with what we got, but it wasn’t our best,” said Morgan Hahn. She added, “This competition just showed us what we need to improve on, so we can do our best at state.”
The dance team will be competing next in the state dance competition. Last year they placed third and fifth, and they hope to bring home more trophies this year.
Although the two competitions are their only competitive events, the dance team performs several routines during the halftime of most of the varsity basketball games.
