JV Retains Championship

After earning the team championship at the Pierce Invitational, the Pierce junior varsity speech team finished first again at the Stanton Invitational this past Saturday, January 30.  To finish first as a team, the junior varsity team had nine medalists, while varsity had two medalists to finish seventh.

Micah Bahnfleth earned the first-place gold with his humorous prose selection.  Bahnfleth, Zach Halsey, and Jacob Jones earned another junior varsity first in their Oral Interpretation of Drama (OID).  In their first competition as duet partners, Stefanie Koehler and Emily Polt also earned the first-place gold with their junior varsity duet.

Another pair of duet partners, Marcus Blunck and Mason Rohrich earned a bronze in duet acting, while Bahnfleth and Jones finished right behind them for fourth place.  Blunck earned his second third-place medal in entertainment speaking; and Jones also received a bronze medal, his in poetry.

The junior varsity trio of Swara Fadnis, Amy Fleer, and Cady Reinke were runners-up in Oral Interpretation of Drama.  Fleer earned an additional silver medal in informative speaking.  Reinke also medaled in a second event; she earned a fourth-place finish in serious prose.

Varsity medal winners were Zach Halsey and Kaelee Stuchlik.  Halsey was a double-medal winner with a fourth in humorous prose and a sixth in entertainment speaking.  Stuchlik finished fifth in extemporaneous speaking.

Speech Coach Mrs. Crys Bauermeister said, “We will perform better when we have a whole team next week.  I am interested to see how we will respond, and I am also eager to see how people will succeed with new events that have been added.”

Triple medalist, junior Zach Halsey, said, “The JV team did really well this week, but we have to keep pushing forward with our efforts.  The varsity team also needs to work harder in the weeks to come.”
