Seniors Attend 8 to Great Retreat
On Tuesday, January 12, the senior class attended a day-long 8 to Great workshop presented by the 8 to Great founder Mary Kay (MK) Mueller.
The 8 to Great program teaches one to use a specific process in order to become successful. The process consists of eight steps or “highways” to achieve a dream or to live successfully. The underclassmen have been doing the 8 to Great program in shorter increments once a week, taught by eleven teachers who are trained to facilitate the 8 to Great program. The seniors, however, do not participate in the weekly 8 to Great program, so Mr. Brahmer, Mrs Birch, and Mrs. Timm wanted to provide them with an opportunity to learn this formula for success. Mrs. Birch said, “We wanted every senior to know the process so they can learn the way to lead the happiest lives possible. The knowledge is going to be useful for the seniors as they go to college.”
To begin the program, the seniors were given worksheets that contained all of the highways, along with questions and famous quotations that relate to each highway. For the rest of the program, MK Mueller talked about each highway, using real-life stories as examples. She also had activities that correlated with each highway. The seniors did a variety of activities, such as sticking straws through potatoes and writing forgiveness letters. ”I like that she wasn’t hypocritical. She had real stories of how effective her program was,” said Christian Fisher.
Mary Kay Mueller is an author, motivational speaker, and life coach.
