The Pierce dance team and cheerleader team each received an honorable mention in one of their categories at the State Cheer and Dance Competition on Saturday, February 20 in Grand Island.
The dance team performed two dances at state. They competed in the jazz category, performing their “Rockstar” routine; they received honorable mention, which means they were among the top five teams. The dance team also performed their “Crazy Legs” routine but did not place. Dance team captain Amanda Hanlin said, “We had a lot of injuries throughout the season,” but she thought the team still managed to perform well.
Sideline and Non-Tumbling were the two categories the Pierce cheerleaders competed in. They earned an honorable mention in their sideline cheer. Fran Pytleski, the cheer sponsor, said, “State was a lot of fun. The competition was very tough, but I think our girls competed very hard.”
There were about fifteen teams competing in each category in both the dance and cheer divisions.
