Barry Carlson Speaks at Pierce High

“Goals aren’t important; they are vital!” This was the motto shared by Barry Carlson on Wednesday February 17 as he addressed the student body at Pierce High. Carlson discussed how to set goals and accomplish them. Carlson has addressed many student groups; his message was brought to Pierce with the sponsorship of Town and Country Insurance and Rick Sirek.
Carlson answered three questions about setting goals: Why set goals? Why don’t people set goals? and What are the steps to achieving your goals? He had an explanation for each question. He also had reasons and rules for setting goals. Among the points he made was that some people who are meant to be tigers act more like goats; we should work to be what we are able to be. He told several stories about people who achieved greatness despite having handicaps because they used all the abilities they did have. During the assembly he had a visual presentation accompanying his reasons, and he gave a handout at the end with all of his key information.
Carlson said that he feels fear as he stands in front of large crowds of people, but he added that he “took a risk and succeeded.” This was also a part of his talk. He said that his favorite part about this job is “impacting people.”
