Speech Teams Perform Well at Wausa
Pierce’s junior varsity speech team finished second overall at the Wausa Trojan Speech Invitational on Saturday, February 13. Three gold medals helped the JV team earn their overall silver medal. The varsity team placed fourth.
The varsity team performed well, with Matt Koeppe and Ryan Leise placing fifth in duet acting. Zach Halsey finished fifth in entertainment speaking and sixth in humorous prose interpretation; Emily Taylor finished second in humorous prose. The trio of Jacob Jones, Micah Bahnfleth, and Halsey earned second in oral interpretation of drama (OID), while Christian Fisher, Leise, and Koeppe finished sixth in OID. Katie Lockee finished sixth in extemporaneous speaking.
The junior varsity team earned five medals. Jones finished first in poetry; Bahnfleth earned a gold medal with his humorous prose piece. Jones and Bahnfleth finished first in duet acting, while Elyssa Leach and Swara Fadnis followed close behind with a fourth-place finish. Amy Fleer, Cady Reinke, and Fadnis finished second in oral interpretation of drama.
The next speech meet will be in Battle Creek on Saturday, February 20. The district speech competition will be held at Pierce High School on March 1, starting at 9:30 am.
Speech coach Crys Bauermeister said, “I was hoping for the varsity team to be stronger this week, but they did well. We are looking forward to being very competitive in the next meets.”
