Kyle Eddy qualified for the state wrestling tournament by placing third in the Class B-3 district meet on Saturday, February 13. Eddy placed third in the 152 pound weight class and finished with a 4-1 record. His only loss was in the semi-finals to Madison’s Kurt Ruh, who is ranked second in the state. Eddy said, “My match against Ruh was definitely the hardest. I wasn’t nervous about my qualifying match because I had scouted the kid and knew I could win.” This will be Eddy’s second trip to the state tournament.
Although not qualifying for state, Pierce had other wrestlers do well at districts. 130 pounder Logan Sudbeck, 160 pounder Mason Sudbeck, and 215 pounder Tanner Dickey all made it to the heartbreak round (semi-finals). Logan Sudbeck and Dickey both finished the meet with a 3-2 record, and Mason Sudbeck finished with a record of 2-2. Seth Eggerling and Zach Neuhalfen also finished 2-2, and they made it as far as quarterfinals.
Eddy’s first match at the state tournament will take place at the Quest Center in Omaha on Thursday, February 18. Coach Ryan Stusse said, “I expect Kyle to medal at state. He is definitely in the top six of his weight class, but it all depends on whether or not he believes it.”
