Students Chosen for Honor Choir

February 08, 2010

Nineteen Pierce High School students were selected for the 2010 Wayne State Honor Choir held on Friday, February 5.  The day started about 9:00 a.m. and ended with a concert at 4:00 p.m. in the Ramsey Theater.  The Honor Choir consisted of students in grades 9-12 from fifteen area schools.  However, a couple schools were not present due to the road conditions.

The songs performed by the Honor Choir at the concert were Fa Una Canzone, an Italian madrigal, With A Voice of Singing, and Zungo, a Nigerian folk song.  The Honor Choir and the Wayne State College Concert Choir combined and sang Things That Never Die.

The Pierce students represented each voice part–soprano, alto, tenor, and bass.  Sopranos who went were RaeLynn Sybrant, Laurie Venteicher, Amy Fleer, and Kristin Canaday.  Altos were Eva Chavez, Megan Gerteisen, and Sarah Krohn.  Tenors were Nick Ussery, Tyler Miller, Clayton Craft, Zach Mayfield, Christian Fisher, and Colby Huff.  Bass singers were Colby Geiger, Mason Sudbeck, Austin Rohrich, Blake Douglass, Jacob Jones, and Corey Korth.

Choir director Mrs. Constance Jessen said, “I thought the day went really well.  It started a little slow because of the weather, but the students worked really well together.  The concert was great because it was a good opportunity for the high school students to sing with older, college voices.”
