Elementary Readers Honored

Ten Pierce Elemetary students will begin the summer with a little added excitement as a result of their dedication and luck during a seven week reading promotion at the school. The ten students were the lucky winners of a drawing held last Tuesday.
To qualify for the drawing students had to meet individual reading goals that they set for themselves with the aid of their teacher. The goals were for the amount of reading they would complete and their level of comprehension of these books.
Second grade winners were Ashley Pederson and Kaleb Anderson. Third grade winners were Riley Carlson and Paige Johnson. Fourth grade winners were Kristina Schuett and Leslie Dohmen. Fifth grade winners were Seth Anderson and Jacob Barnes. Sixth grade winners were Hannah Higgins and Sydney Acklie.
The drawing was part of a reading convocation at which students were given the results of their year-long reading program. The second through sixth grade students at Pierce Elementary read over 10,000 books that has an average reading level of 4.0. They took computerized quizzes on these books and scored an average of over 89 percent.
Also honored was the sixth grader who earned the most Acclerated Reader points during her career at Pierce Elementary. Top point earner was Cheynne Hunt with 1436 points. Accelerated REader points are based on the length and difficulty of books successfully read.
Twenty-one students were honored for reading over one million words during the school year. Members of the "Millionaire club" are Rachelle Tuckers, Cheyenne Hunt, Kristin Arens, Emily Bjorklund, Krista Rystrom, Brenda Venteicher, Shannah Unseld, Dillon Dickey, Matthew Penne, Kimberlee Carlson, Taylor Oestreich, Caitlyn Skuodas, breana Attema, Sydney Silhacek, Brianna Polt, Allison Koehlmoos, Austin Sybrant, Samuel Halsey, Synthia Schuett, and Madison Larimore.
