Weber and Schultz Place In State Journalism Contest

by Jessica Neitzke

May 01, 2008

Josh Weber is the state class B journalism champion in advertising, and Cara Schultz won third place in yearbook theme writing in the state class B state contest. Both have qualified for the state journalism all-class finals to be held on the University of Nebraska campus in Lincoln on May 5.

They entered work that they did in journalism for the 2008 Pierce High yearbook. Weber entered his advertisement for Stonacek Memorial Chapel in Pierce, and Schultz entered her writing for theme development in the yearbook. In addition to their class B placings, both entries were in the best 12 among all five classes, A1 through D.

At the all class finals, both will be given materials and asked to create an entry in the area for which they placed. They will compete with the top 12 from all Nebraska schools regardless of size, and the top six will receive medals.

Cara Schultz said, “I’m really excited to be chosen to compete against other students at this contest. I feel like all my hard work has paid off.”

Yearbook sponsor Mrs. Anne Muhs said, “Both Josh and Cara are fine students who take pride in their work. Their creative efforts in the 2008 yearbook are wonderful; I knew they would win prizes at the state level because their work is just that good. And I’m looking forward to taking them to Lincoln because they’re also very nice people, great company!”
