FCCLA Closes Year

The Pierce High Family Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) closed their year with their traditional banquet and presentation of awards.
Members of the FCCLA Chapter were recognized for first, second, third, and fourth year memberships. Members also received Students Taking Action for Recognition (STAR) awards. Kristin Canaday, Blake Douglass, Tad Fuchs, and Emily Taylor had competed in the freshman parliamentary procedure test; Emily and Tad received gold medals at state. Faye Gerteisen and Kathy Venteicher received gold medals in chapter service. Gerteisen won gold at districts, and silver at state for financial planning. Venteicher also won gold at districts, and silver at state for illustrated talk. Kyle Rohrich received top gold at districts, and gold at state for job interview.
Freshman Elyssa Leach was chosen to compete in the district FCCLA creed speaking contest in which she had to memorize and interpret what the FCCLA creed means. Earlier in the year, members competed against each other trying to sell the most candy grams. Gerteisen sold the most and was honored as the top candy gram salesperson .
Summer Incentive winners were Stevie Buettgenbach, Jonathan Canaday, Kristin Canaday, Tad Fuchs, Faye Gerteisen, Megan Gerteisen, Tiffany Guenther, Colby Jansen, Jasmine Kai, Kia Kai, Elyssa Leach, Nick Lukens, Rachael Lukens, Kyle Rohrich, Emily Taylor, Kathy Venteicher, Amy Venteicher, Laurie Venteicher, Blake Douglass, Eva Chavez, and Morgan Mattson. They had achieved enough points to qualify for the coveted summer trip that the group takes.
Awards were also given out to one member in each class who earned the most points throughout the year. Eighth grade winner was Amy Venteicher, freshman was Kristin Canaday, sophomore was Kia Kai, juniors were Faye Gerteisen and Kathy Venteicher, and senior member was Jonathan Canaday.
Vickie DeJong won community service award for helping with the FCCLA projects.
Tad Fuchs said, “We got to see how much everyone actually accomplished over the year, and it makes us want to get even more involved next year.”
