High school students interested in pursuing a career in a medical field were invited to attend the last Medical Explorers meeting at Faith Regional on Wednesday, April 16. Students from PHS who have attended the meetings are Kaelee Stuchlik, Hannah Atkins, Ashlyn Doerr, Stefanie Koehler, and Nick Lukens.
Medical Explorers is a program that helps students learn more about careers in health care. Every year, the program starts in September and ends in April. Each month, a different guest speaker from a health profession talks to students and gives them hands-on experience on that career. Guided tours of the hospital and discussions also take place during the meetings.
This month, the last guest speaker was a physician’s assistant. The meeting was from 7:00-8:30.
Ashlyn Doerr, who is a junior, said, “Medical Explorers is great because it gives me the opportunity to see what medical careers are available. One month someone talks about his job, and I decide that’s something I never want to do. Then someone with a different job comes the next month, and I decide that’s something I may want to do for the rest of my life.”
