The winter athletes from Pierce High School were honored this past week for their dedication and hard work during the winter sport season.  On Tuesday, March 11, a pot luck dinner was held in the Pierce High School multi-purpose room, followed by a ceremony where awards were distributed to the athletes.  Families of the winter athletes enjoyed the dinner at 6:30, followed by speeches from coaches and senior athletes.

The winter sports banquet honored students who participated in basketball, wrestling, and cheerleading.  Girls’ basketball head coach Darren Sindelar spoke, followed by a speech from senior Cortney Koepke.  Senior Corey Woslager spoke on behalf of the 25-1 boys’ basketball team, and Coach Mike Emory also spoke at the banquet.

Head coach for the wrestlers, Ryan Stusse, complimented his wrestling guys for their hard work throughout the season, especially the four state qualifiers:  Stephan Johnson, Shawn Dvorak, Evan Hanlin, and Kevin Paulsen.  Cheerleading advisor Mrs. Chris Baldwin also acknowledged the determination of the cheerleaders.  Two of the four senior cheerleaders, Brittnie Abler and Cara Schultz, also spoke for the final time at the banquet before they graduate from Pierce High in May.

Throughout the meal, letter winners were asked to come up to the front of the room and receive their letters; other winter athlete participants were also asked to receive their awards during the meal.

Jacob Woslager, a Pierce High junior who lettered for his second year in basketball said, “The dinner was good, and we hope our team is just as good next year.”

Junior cheerleader Courtney Schultz also enjoyed the winter sports banquet.  “It was nice because we got honored for all of the things we had accomplished over the year, and we got appreciation for being one of the better squads that Pierce has had,” said Schultz.
